The Sola Arm Chair is one of the three showstopper chairs developed by the maker, Nissin, to mark their 60th Anniversary. It took the design team 3 years to accomplish their goal of creating a collection of simple and sophisticated furniture that would be suitable for both residential and commercial settings. The team went through an extraordinary number of prototypes before they reached the perfect design. The Sola Chair is made with natural beech known for its smooth grain. The seat back curved around the chair creates a luxurious atmosphere. "Sola" means "sky" in Japanese, and as the name suggests this chair is so light at only 8.5 lbs, that it seems like it could float in the sky. The name was chosen to highlight the designer's achievement in creating a super light-weight, luxurious arm chair. The Sola Chair was the winner of the Good Design Award 2006. Quality fabric and leather are available for the upholstery.
