Using a minimum of materials in a maximally inventive way, the Crosshatch Chair employs both handcraft and technology to achieve alluringly refined results. Lightweight and transparent, the chair is extremely easy to pull up for a desk-side chat or to relax around a cocktail table. The parachute cord is available in four colors; the frame in either an ash or walnut in a range of Geiger textiles.
Parachute cords, a common industrial product, are an integral part of its design. Pulled down, the cords create a system of internal tension and supply the necessary back support, creating the feeling of being enclosed in a comforting, protective nest. Because of its simple, classic profile, the Crosshatch Chair can work in a broad range of environments, from an executive office or a reception area to a Manhattan penthouse or suburban living room.
Crosshatch is designed by EOOS, the Vienna-based studio that has received more than 70 international awards, including the coveted Italian Compasso d‰ЫЄOro in 2004. The designers claim Ward Bennett as one of their influences for the Crosshatch Chair, especially his use of industrial components. The designers‰ЫЄ use of parachute cords is an element that Bennett would certainly have approved.
