Description:
The inspiration for Table, Bench, Chair derives from the interior communication of the Yamonote line on Tokyoкs Metro. Japanese trains generally have benches with armrests dividing the spaces, however the Yamonote line has a green bench with a single gold seat in the middle, which creates spatial awareness - passengers are subconsciously drawn to using the space in a mathematical manner and maximising the function of the bench.
Hecht has investigated this concept with the versatile series of Table, Bench Chair. Designated seating space is profiled into the solid oak seat whilst an additional reference to traditional bentwood furniture is also made. The design form is extremely simple, reducing all physical connections between the different components and further merging the worlds of a table and chair, allowing the seating to cross over into both.
Available in three versions; a chair, a bench and a love seat this beautifully elegant yet understated piece, is particularly suited to gallery environments where contemplation is encouraged or in a reception area as an inspiring option for seating.
