Churchill Soapstone is quarried in Virginia, USA, and blocks are cut into slabs in Tate, Georgia. Known for its beautiful aesthetic qualities, durability and thermal properties, Churchill Soapstone is an elegant and sophisticated choice for architectural and interior design elements used for both exterior and interior applications.
Soapstone slabs are great for use as a countertop or around a fireplace. A hot pot can be placed directly on a soapstone countertop without concern of burning the surface. Since it is composed primarily of talc, the acids in foods used for everyday cooking will not etch or stain this stone. Soapstone can scratch; therefore, using a cutting board is required. Due to its density, soapstone is non-porous, naturally antibacterial, and stain resistant. For interior use Arizona Tile recommends sealing soapstone slabs with Alberene Dry Wax. This is a 100% natural product made from Beeswax, Olive Oil and Carnauba. For exterior use Arizona Tile recommends sealing soapstone with Seal and Enhance. Both interior and exterior sealers will need to be re-applied in 4-6 months or as needed. Both of these sealers will darken the soapstone so please apply to a scrap piece from your installation before sealing the entire job. Finally, a mesh backing is adhered to the back of the stone to ensure safety while handling and fabricating the slab or tile.
