Bardiglio is quarried from a bedrock quarry in the Apennine Mountains near Carrara, Italy. It comes from the same quarry as Bianco Carrara and is often called Bardiglio Scuro, with “scuro” meaning “dark color” in Italian. Bardiglio will have a mix of light and dark grey tones within a slab, along with some areas of white. This marble will have sweeping veins and movement which will change on every shipment. Due to the qualities of the stone, the slabs are book-matched; meaning slab one and slab two will be cut and polished to create a mirror image of each other. These are then kept in sequence, which allows for a consistent flow in pits in the raw material. Before the stone reaches the polishing stages, these pits are filled with polyester resin. Depending on how deep each pit is, the resin may shrink as it dries, which will leave the surface of the filled area slightly lower than the rest. This does not affect the durability, maintenance or beauty of the stone. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that it be sealed to extend its longevity.
It is common for Bardiglio slabs to have some dry surface veins which are white in appearance. The factory uses a flowing epoxy resin to fill these veins in during the production. If one of these dry veins has opened during shipment, your fabricator should be able to reapply flowing epoxy resin to fix the issue. Please consult with your fabricator in advance of shipping the slabs.
