Brand Description/ History

HEWI's success story begins in 1929, when Heinrich Wilke founded the company in Bad Arolsen, Germany. With the production of the first nylon lever handle and other useful products made of polyamide, it grew to become one of the first plastics processing companies in Germany.

HEWI made its breakthrough in 1969 with the System 111 lever handle, which, characterized by the Bauhaus style and striking colors, found its way into many private households and architectural objects and thus became a design classic. A little later, other products such as wardrobes and handrails completed the range - the system design was born.

Inspired by material and form, HEWI developed the first sanitary range 477 in addition to System 111, which completed the system concept from the door to the bathroom. Shortly afterwards, Range 801, the first barrier-free bathroom accessories range, completed the portfolio. Since then, HEWI underscores its commitment to safety and comfort with attention to design, color and finish options as well as full range of accessories, thereby allowing designers to compliment and contrast with other finish elements in bathroom design plans.

The family-run company now operates worldwide with over 550 employees and production facilities still based in Germany. The systems and series of fittings and sanitary products still follow the system concept today and combine design and comfort. From kindergartens and schools to hospitals and high-quality equipped hotel rooms - HEWI's ranges and systems enable requirements to be met depending on the type of building.
