Description

HBF employs over 300 people in their manufacturing facilities located in Hickory, North Carolina. In the last 25 years, HBF has become known internationally as a leader in the contract furnishings industry. The company has supplied products to many Fortune 500 companies and has earned many design awards, including the ICFF Editor’s Award.

  • C Collection — Designed by Swiss-born, San Francisco-based industrial designer Yves Behar, the C Collection of lounge seating and occasional tables is driven by concept. Behar explains that the design “really starts in the ether.” The C Collection focuses on collaboration, complexity, and curvature. Given the new ways people work, which “are diverse, so configurable in so many different ways,” Behar created a line of furniture that enables group work, with or without technology. The collection also presents the overarching notion of a simple curve, which dominates all the furniture.
  • Nest Series — Previewed at NeoCon 2011, the Nest Series includes side chairs, lounge seating, and tables. Designer Todd Bracher envisioned the collection as an answer to today’s paradoxical need for both social connection and personal space. A combination of mesh backs and steam-bent wood lends the Nest Chairs “a sense of lightness and sophistication.” Swivel bases allow users to communicate with others. Nest Lounge Seating features an ergonomic lumbar support; additionally, the flex in the mesh enables relaxed and upright postures. Nest Occasional Tables come equipped with optional power/data access, and the satellite tables nest into the lounge and side chair, creating a tablet surface.
  • Oval Egg Occasional Tables — Designed by Barbara Barry, the Oval Egg Occasional Tables feature an organic shape in maple veneer available in18 wood finishes. Simple and sinuous, the Oval Egg line of tables illustrates Barry’s elegant and refined style, while also addressing contemporary needs—optional cushions offer extra seating and swivel tops accommodate technology needs.
  • HBF Textiles — Started in 1987, HBF Textiles supplies a wide range of designer upholstery and drapery materials, including fabric, leather, sheers, and faux leather. Several HBF Textiles are Cradle to Cradle® certified, an eco-framework that ensures products use safe materials that can be disassembled and recycled. Other fabrics incorporate recycled yarns, bamboo yarns, and post-consumer polyester. HBF Textiles also offers a line of wool textiles, a material that is naturally renewable, biodegradable, and flame retardant, thereby removing the need for chemical treatments.

HBF operates according to the philosophy that “good design sells,” which explains why they often collaborate with established designers. The company also believes “the customer is always first,” so HBF focuses on service throughout the manufacturing and administrative process. Besides delivering high quality furniture, HBF makes an effort to protect the environment for future generations, offering products with GREENGUARD®, Cradle to Cradle®, and FSC certification, as well as LEED points.
