Description

Named for the Danish town in which it’s located, FREDERICIA has always had a strong identification with the history of Danish design. The company began as Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in 1911. After Andreas Graversen acquired the company in 1955, he began a long collaboration with architect Børge Mogensen. Together, they established FREDERICIA’s identity as a premium manufacturer of modern furniture with an eclectic personality and durability to outlast the ages: “the furniture must live up to the demands presented by normal, everyday use and should withstand being used and cherished for an entire lifetime.”

  • 5271 Coffee Table— No profile of FREDERICIA would be complete without mention of iconic designer Børge Mogensen. Author of some 30 distinct designs for FREDERICIA alone, Mogensen’s vision of clean, modern lines and unembellished design had a significant influence on the company. One of his most characteristic pieces, 5271 is a solid wood table inspired by the simplicity, functionality, and expert craft of American Shaker furnishings. The table features solid oak throughout. Finish options include untreated, soaped, clear, or black lacquered.
  • Stingray— A “modern interpretation of the classic rocking chair,” Thomas Pedersen’s Stingray Rocker debuted in 2002. Influenced by the organic shapes found in nature, Pedersen made the centerpiece of this aesthetic tour de force a generously-cupped seat pan made of fiberglass or wood. Modeled after the distinctive silhouette of a stingray’s fins, the chair’s sides seem to waver and flow, giving it a singular personality and style. The frame and rockers are stainless steel. Options include seats in oak, walnut, or makassar, and soft upholstery in leather or fabric.
  • Seracs Sofa— The innovative Seracs Sofa is modular furniture for the contemporary age. Versatile and aesthetically innovative, Seracs is comprised of five distinct, individually upholstered modules. Seracs offers extensive design flexibility, as users can arrange individual modules in any fashion, before mounting them on a painted, counterweighted base. The plinth frame is offered in wood or metal. Upholstery options include chromium or vegetable tanned leather and fabric in a wide range of colors.

Though grounded in the heyday of Modern design, FREDERICIA has never conformed to strictures or limitations. One of the company’s great strengths has always been the freedom offered to designers: “Our furniture has strong ideas and a personality that is not afraid of toeing the line of normality. It should meet with today's standards but not be confined to a specific design policy. We believe that guidelines and committees are an obstacle for genuine creativity, and we have the utmost faith in our designers.” In other words—according to CEO Thomas Graversen—“we trust our guts.” This bold outlook has resulted in an enviable combination of stylistic daring, superlative quality, and reliable functionality, making the FREDERICIA brand known and appreciated worldwide.
