Founded in 1998 by Angela Adams and furniture designer Sherwood
Hamill (“partners in life and design”), Angela Adams is “dedicated to celebrating a
natural lifestyle.” The company’s modern furnishings feature clean lines, rich materials,
and supreme function. For more than 20 years, the company has created unique and
unexpected design that celebrates nature and modernity.

The Birds and the Bees:
Inspired by Mother Nature, The Birds and The Bees is a
collection that revels in organic forms, colors, and patterns. Pathways, a series of rugs
“inspired by walks in the woods, on the beach, and in the garden,” are long, narrow, and
irregular in shape. Garden Hand-Tufted Wool Rug, for example, mimics a “fragrant
garden full of vibrant flowers.” Yellow and magenta circles represent spring blooms
while emerald and chartreuse shapes echo lush greenery. Other Pathways rugs, all made
of 100% New Zealand wool, include Woods and Stream. Birds and Bees furnishings are
equally earthy and elemental. Lily Dressing Table Set, for example, features “the color of
fresh green grass” in shapes found in nature: a honeycomb-shaped mirror, and tapered
legs like tree branches.
-
State of Mind:
Dominated by graphic simplicity, the State of Mind Collection celebrates
nature’s irregular lines and shapes by translating them into geometric patterns “that are
familiar to us, yet in an abstract way.” Islands wool rug is reminiscent of river rocks
beneath water or small coastal islands seen from above. Other State of Mind rugs feature
ovals and squares that recall natural shapes such as floating bubbles or rippling water.
The collection’s furniture also pays tribute to natural forms—“in a dreamy, subconscious
way.” Vector Sideboard and Writing Table, with their angular legs, might be an
abstraction of a Swallow-tailed Kite’s dramatic tail. And Mod Pod and Munjoy Tables,
with their puzzle surfaces, could be expressionistic interpretations of cracked sand dunes
or reticulated beetles.

Utopia Collection:
All about beauty and happiness, the Utopia Collection brings the
perfection of the natural world indoors. Rugs display luscious spring blooms and
awesome mountainscapes, as well as expectant buds, birds in flight, and roiling waters.
Sea Fantasy, a birch veneer tray, pictures the sublime grandiosity of underwater sea
anemones and grasses, which secret a mermaid in their undulating tentacles. Sea Bird
Sidecase is a four-drawer unit with triangular legs and angled lines, its shape calling to
mind the overhead V of a flock of pelagic birds.

All Angela Adams patterns and designs are named in honor of a favorite person, pet, or
place. From a beloved niece to a street kitten, these namesakes inspire the color, texture, and form of each design. See the designs that represent every namesake at the Angela Adams store in Portland, Maine or at retailers like Design Within Reach and Doma.
