Manufacturer's Product Description

The fulfilling design of this kitchen originates from the classic style of European rationalism, mitigated by Mediterranean warmness which creates warmer and more sophisticated lines. The result is a unique and creative combination of iconographic expressions of modern design, new proportions and innovative balance where international classical shapes are re-interpreted.
The new kitchen by Iosa Ghini, draws on classical tradition to create a highly contemporary and everlasting style, strongly in line with current trends. In the new culture of living, confirmed by today's eclectic furnishing elements, style, details and taste for quality, contribute to consolidating values which are both ancient and modern, thus enhancing continuity and stability.
architecture within architecture Iosa Ghini creates a highly dynamic and versatile product, capable of opening up to every kind of space, hosting large social events, wisely combining the functional aspects of a kitchen with the ability to represent those who inhabit it. A kitchen which is constantly open to modern trends while looking to the typical Italian design culture, thus highliting a "cultured" recuperation of classical shapes, symbol of balance, elegance, harmony and scenography.

DISTINCTIVENESS AND EXCLUSIVENESS: ARTISAN CULTURE IN DESIGN

This kitchen was designed to cater for an exclusive and demanding audience, which loves prestigious and classical objects, but is also open to international trends, capable of living style as an expression of modern times. In search of authenticity and prestige, this audience perceives historic values as unique symbols and recuperates them to satisfy a need for personal refinement.
The design of the new kitchen by Iosa Ghini takes industrial rationalisation into account, yet it has a classical and wooden impact, by highlighting structural elements like frames and doors. The strong and distinctive element of the kitchen is the door with wooden frame and integrated hand grip (available in the wooden version and with lacquered central panel), which conveys a sense of great stylistic cleanness and material strength, provided by the direct contact with wood and the uniqueness of details (decorative inserts on the door) which recall the value of artisan workmanship. The decor is made through the laser cutting process, an innovative wood manufacturing technique, and is back-lined with an internal glass protection, which can be applied both on the wooden and two-coloured door.
The 28 mm thickness of the door conveys a sense of solidity, prestige and comfort. Detail refinement and elegance which emerge from the two-coloured version with solid wood frame and matt lacquered central panel, result from innovative combinations of different materials and shades with a strong focus on natural elements.
The importance of Key West's design is also highlighted by the use of large single doors (up to 120 x 72) with lift-up opening.

THE WARMTH OF NATURAL WOOD

Wood is the true protagonist in this kitchen: natural, palpable, sensorial, it is line with today's trends, especially in the upper end of the market, thanks to the use of wooden finishes, unique and decorative details which maintain the warmth and quality of classic furniture, while reaching an extremely modern result thanks to the meticulous balance between the recuperation of classical icons and modern patterns.
The work areas extend, both in the peninsula and island versions, over a 5 cm solid wood structural base which supports the base units, highlighting their aesthetic profile, and incorporates both the household functions and the open space connecting the kitchen to the living room through elegant multi-purpose shelves.
The base is equipped - along its entire height from the lower part up until the under-top shelves and top - with continuous and diffused lighting, achieved through luminous led beams of light which convey a sense of sophisticated warmth and intimacy to the domestic environment.
The work area is also illuminated by a warm diffused light thanks to a luminous 5 cm high under wall unit shelf with elegant decorative solid wood supports.

A KITCHEN TO LIVE IN

Key West is a system of open furniture units where you can share preparation and consumption of food in a space ideal for social relationships.
Hence the need to equip the kitchen with innovative practical contents, in line with the evolving daily lifestyle and requirements of a sophisticated audience, which is open to innovative and prestigious solutions.
Thanks to the development of professional accessories for food storage Key West responds to evolving trends even in food: new needs require new functions.
In addition to medium-temperature wine compartments and cigar boxes lined in cedar with humidity control, specific units have been designed to house special recessed cabinets to preserve not only cold but also fresh products, including cheese, vegetables and desserts.
The hood, a significant element in the project, also dominates the layout with its unique shape as a symbol of the central role in life and the warmth of the kitchen environment: it can be room-centre or wall-mounted and has an aged sheet metal surface and wooden frame (with a 1200 cubic metre perimeter extracting capacity).
The importance of Key West as a space representing those who inhabit it, is also highlighted by the presence of coordinated tables and chairs: the table (2000 x 900) with transparent amber glass top highlights the firmness of the solid wood supporting structure, while the elegant chair is made of a metallic frame and a softly shaped thermoplastic seat.

THE DESIGNER: IOSA GHINI

Massimo Iosa Ghini was born in Bologna in 1959. He studied architecture in Florence and graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. In 1985 he took part in the avant-guard movements of Italian design, creating illustrations, objects and interiors for the Bolidism group, which he founded; he also worked with Ettore Sottsass, of the Memphis group. During this period, he opened the Iosa Ghini studio in Bologna and began to work as an architect and designer. Iosa Ghini designs furniture, collections and objects and develops art direction for leading Italian and international design firms. Over the years he has defined a highly personal and distinctive style, also thanks to his unique "graphic lines". His objective is to tackle projects not only in terms of the aesthetic aspects traditionally associated with design, but by developing the entire creative process, including marketing research, project conception, technical development, engineering, prototyping, design, corporate image and communication. He has become especially renowned for the projects he has developed for large groups, establishing an interior design identity for worldwide application to all headquarters. Notable examples of this include his projects for Ferrari, Maserati, Superga, Omnitel and, most recently Alitalia. As an architect, his professional development has focused on designing architectural and exhibition spaces, commercial venues and important redevelopment projects. In all these works, he has applied his concept of “full” architecture, in which the envelope is understood more as a shell than a membrane. This process has yielded projects inspired by tradition, yet their powerfully fluid lines make them unquestionably contemporary.
His most important architectural works include the Kröpcke metro station in Hanover and “The Collection”, a a shopping centre in Coral Gables, near Miami. As to works in progress, the most notable are the One-Two building project in Miami, Florida, and the new building currently underway in Budapest for the Boscolo Group. Massimo Iosa Ghini holds conferences and lectures at various universities, including the Polytechnic Institute in Milan, the Domus Academy, the University of Rome, the Elisava School of Design in Barcelona, the Design Fachhochschule in Cologne and the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. He has also represented Italian design at various international symposia. His works are exhibited at numerous museums and are part of international private collections. He is part of the Scientific Committee of “Markitecture, Valore in Architettura”, a project promoted by Bolognafiere for Cersaie. Three of his works have received prizes: the Good Design Award from the Chicago Atheneum in 2001 and 2004, and the Red Dot Award in 2003.
